Youth of the Month-January 2015

Sprague Clubhouse

Boys & Girls Clubs of Pueblo County (BGCPC) announced that Brianna Martinez is the Club’s January Youth of the Month. The Youth of the Month honor is earned by one member each month in recognition of their strong leadership, good character, and commitment to service.
Brianna has been a member of BGCPC for 9 years. She has a big heart and currently is a freshman at East High School where she is a member of the varsity cheerleading team and maintains a 4.1 grade point average. Brianna is an IB student with a goal of attending Colorado State University – Fort Collins. She enjoys working with kids and can often be found assisting Club staff with Club programs.  She enjoys the responsibility of being a role model for numerous kids and she pushes herself to be all she can be. Younger Club members look up to Brianna and her peers know that they can always turn to her for help.

This exceptional young lady is a wonderful public speaker and has been able to build upon her speaking skills by actively participating in Club programs. Brianna has served as Vice President of Torch Club and currently serves as the Treasurer of Keystone Club. She was also a member of the Club’s Girls Rock Volleyball team for three years and worked hard to become one of the league’s best defensive middle back players. Brianna received recognition for outstanding sportsmanship from the league’s coaches each year she was part of the league.

Brianna is passionate about giving back to her community. For the past four years, Brianna has completed over 100 hours of community service each year. She appreciates how much the Club has instilled the importance of community service in her life because she knows that it’s something she will continue to do throughout her life. Brianna remembers playing Bingo at a senior center and says the experience of spending time with residents of the center changed her life.

She views her peers at the Club as her brothers and sisters. She says that long after her time at the Club is over, she will always hold a special place in her heart of the friendships and memories made at BGCPC. “They say home is where the heart is, my home is at the Club!”

As a Youth of the Month honoree, Brianna is eligible to compete in Boys & Girls Clubs of Pueblo County’s 2015 Youth of the Year competition, which provides several scholarships and leadership opportunities. The Clarion Inn is proud to be the January Youth of the Month Sponsor. If you would like to congratulate Brianna, you may do so by emailing her at club@bgcpueblo.org.
