Youth of the Month-July 2016

Cassidy Forrest
Avondale Clubhouse

Boys & Girls Clubs of Pueblo County announced that Cassidy Forrest is the Club’s July Youth of the Month. The Youth of the Month honor is earned by one member each month in recognition of their strong leadership, good character, and commitment to service. Legacy Bank and The Center for American Values are proud to be Youth of the Month Sponsors.

Cassidy has been a member of the Avondale Clubhouse for over 8 years and she has weathered many trials in her short life. She and her two older siblings were raised by their father for the past six years and recently welcomed three new members to their household a year ago when her father remarried. Cassidy has an enormous heart, which shows in her kindness and empathy towards others. She won’t stand for bullying and will not take part in it even through the strongest peer pressure. The Avondale Clubhouse sent birthday cards to a young boy who was diagnosed with terminal cancer. She learned that this young boy liked Legos. Cassidy created a Lego house and truck from her own personal Lego sets to send with a beautiful card that she made.

Cassidy loves sports and is thinking of trying out for the tennis team this year but is working on the logistics of balancing that with her drama Club responsibilities. The Avondale Clubhouse recently started working on a Social Action Project and Cassidy became the president for this project. She has been a wonderful leader for leading her peers and keeping them on course. Cassidy has a passion for performing and recently took an interest in directing. She is currently directing a film for a local elementary school that focuses on alcohol and drug abuse prevention.

Cassidy truly enjoys volunteering her time for any Torch Club activity at the Club. She can still remember her first pancake dinner that she volunteered to help with for the Avondale/Vineland Lions Club. A staff recalls Cassidy’s excitement the morning of her first volunteer activity and how she dreamt about the event the night before. From pancake dinners to community clean-ups and to car washes, Cassidy never hesitates to volunteer.
Cassidy Shared, “The Club provides me with amazing opportunities and helps me to discover the best of my abilities.”
As a Youth of the Month honoree, Cassidy Forrest is eligible to compete in Boys & Girls Clubs of Pueblo County’s 2017 Youth of the Year competition, which provides several scholarships and leadership opportunities. The July Youth of the Month was selected by Wendy Garrison and Florence Hunt. If you would like to congratulate Cassidy, you may do so by emailing her at club@bgcpueblo.org.
