Youth of the Month-May 2015

Alee Mative
Avondale Clubhouse

Boys & Girls Clubs of Pueblo County (BGCPC) announced that Alee Mattive is the Club’s May Youth of the Month. The Youth of the Month honor is earned by one member each month in recognition of their strong leadership, good character, and commitment to service.

Alee has been a member of Boys & Girls Clubs of Pueblo County’s Avondale Clubhouse for 5 years. Alee is an 8th grade student who is home-schooled. She is the oldest of five siblings and takes her responsibility as the oldest child in her family very seriously. She helps to ensure that her siblings are completing their homework, as well finishing her own studies.

Alee is an active member of Boys & Girls Clubs f of Pueblo County’s (BGCPC) Leadership and Service Program, Torch Club. This exceptional young lady enjoys volunteering for community service projects such as: the Avondale/Vineland Lion’s Club dinners, Triple Acre Horse Rescue, Garden of Faith (community garden in Avondale), and any community service activity that is being offered at the Avondale Clubhouse. Alee is eagerly awaiting more Club members to come of age so the Avondale Clubhouse can have a full Keystone Club (ages 14+) and is excited to participate in the BGCPC 2016 Youth of the Year competition.
Alee is a great role model for not only her younger siblings, but for all BGCPC members. She readily participates in any activity at the Club; whether it is the Power Hour homework program, recreational activities, or prevention programs. She currently is participating in the Club’s Stay SMART program, which provides participants with the skills to resist substance use and sexual activity. Alee is an avid sports fanatic, volleyball in particular, but she will partake in any sport being offered and has incredible sports integrity.

Alee is always willing to lend a helping hand. She will stay late to make sure that each room at the Club is vacuumed and picked up. Being home-schooled, she and her siblings are often the first to come to Club each day and help set up for program. She always has a smile on her face and the Avondale Clubhouse often say that they are lucky to have Alee as a Club member.
Mattive states, “I model my life after the quote, ‘The only person you should try to be better than is the person you were yesterday.’ The Boys & Girls Club helps me to strive to be the best that I can be every day.”
As a Youth of the Month honoree, Alee is eligible to compete in Boys & Girls Clubs of Pueblo County’s 2016 Youth of the Year competition, which provides several scholarships and leadership opportunities. The Party Zone is proud to be BGCPC’s May Youth of the Month Sponsor. The May Youth of the Month was selected by Dave Feamster and Dr. Christine Nevin-Woods.
