Youth of the Month-June 2016

Alexzandra Mattive
Avondale Clubhouse

Boys & Girls Clubs of Pueblo County announced that Alexzandra Mattive is the Club’s June Youth of the Month. The Youth of the Month honor is earned by one member each month in recognition of their strong leadership, good character, and commitment to service. Legacy Bank and The Center for American Values are proud to be Youth of the Month Sponsors.

Alexzandra is currently a ninth grade student who is being home-schooled. She has been a member of the Avondale Clubhouse for five years and is the oldest of five siblings. Alexzandra is a natural born leader and she takes her responsibility as the oldest sibling very seriously. She helps to ensure that her siblings complete their homework, as well as finishing her own studies. Alexzandra is a great role model for not only for her younger siblings, but for all the Club members at the Clubhouse. She readily participates in any activity going on in the Club whether it is the Power Hour program that assists Club youth with homework, playing games in the gymnasium, or building life skills in prevention programs like Stay Smart.

Alexzandra is currently the Secretary of the Avondale Clubhouse’s Torch Club. She truly enjoys helping make her community better by helping with projects like the Avondale/Vineland Lion’s Club dinners, Triple Acre Horse Rescue, the Garden of Faith, and basically any community service activity that is offered. Alexzandra even stays after the Club closes to help the staff make sure the Clubhouse is ready to go for the next day. She and her siblings are often the first to come to the Club each day and they help set-up for the day’s activities. In addition, Alexzandra is a key leader for the Avondale Clubhouse’s Social Action Project. Part of the Social Action Project is to create a short film that encourages younger kids to abstain from underage drinking and drug use. She helped to write the script and has a part in the film as well.

Alexzandra shared, "Being with the Club has taught me leadership skills. From Torch Club to the Teen Leader program to the Social Action Project, we're given every opportunity to grow personally and professionally."

As a Youth of the Month honoree, Alexzandra is eligible to compete in Boys & Girls Clubs of Pueblo County’s 2017 Youth of the Year competition, which provides several scholarships and leadership opportunities. The June Youth of the Month was selected by Don and Lois Pfost and Ron Dehn. If you would like to congratulate Alexzandra, you may do so by emailing her at club@bgcpueblo.org.
