Youth of the Month-November 2015

Sierra Sanchez
East Side Clubhouse

Boys & Girls Clubs of Pueblo County (BGCPC) announced that Sierra Sanchez is the Club’s November Youth of the Month. The Youth of the Month honor is earned by one member each month in recognition of their strong leadership, good character, and commitment to service.

Sierra has been a member of BGCPC for nine years. She is often described as a ray of light that brightens any bad or dark situation. Whether dealing with a personally discouraging situation or looking in from the outside, Sierra shows she is a strong leader by sincerely and consistently being positive. Emotions can run high with teens. She consistently shows up with a smile on her face, even in the midst of what most teens would call a nightmare of a day. Recently, Sierra shared a story of a fellow student giving her a hard time over an incident that took place several years ago. Sierra approached the situation head on and handled it with grace. She’s the type of person that does not dwell on a situation even though others try to persuade her otherwise. Sierra is always setting a good example for others and is able to recognize that there are much more important things in life to devote her time to than getting caught up in unnecessary drama.

During her nine years at the Club, Sierra has always been authentic and true to herself, and helps to inspire younger members to do the same. This outstanding young lady genuinely cares about others and can often be found interacting with the younger Club members and giving them her undivided attention for long periods of time. The majority of Club teens prefer to have their own area at the Clubhouse, but Sierra has communicated that the Club would not be the Club without the younger members present.

Not only is Sierra dedicated to serving the Club, giving back to her community is important to her. Recently, she led a group of her peers as they cleaned up the outside of Parkview Elementary School for Creek Week. Sierra also helps serve snack and dinner when she is at the Club. She also takes part in working shifts at the East Side Clubhouse store. Each and every day she goes out of her way to recruit Club teens to get involved in the many activities and programs the Club offers. The staff from the East Side Clubhouse traveled to East High School to talk about the Club’s teen program and without asking Sierra showed up to both presentations to talk about her experience at the Club.

Sierra shared, “The Club is the place where I can be me and have a great time.”

As a Youth of the Month honoree, Sierra is eligible to compete in Boys & Girls Clubs of Pueblo County’s 2016 Youth of the Year competition, which provides several scholarships and leadership opportunities. Jim Valdez, RE/MAX of Pueblo, Inc., is proud to be the November Youth of the Month Sponsor. If you would like to congratulate Sierra, you may do so by emailing her at
