Youth of the Month-October 2015

Kevyn Perez
Avondale Clubhouse

Boys & Girls Clubs of Pueblo County (BGCPC) announced that Kevyn Perez is the Club’s Octomber Youth of the Month. The Youth of the Month honor is earned by one member each month in recognition of their strong leadership, good character, and commitment to service.

Kevyn has been a member of BGCPC for a year and a half. Currently, he is a freshman at Pueblo County High School and is known for his strong and playful personality. He loves to help rally his peers to participate in Club activities that include: art, community service, and gym games. This young man knows that he is the oldest male member of the Avondale Clubhouse and takes the responsibilities that come with it very seriously. When younger male members are misbehaving or having problems, Kevyn is quick to step in and try to help mediate the conflict. He has lived a very full life in his short 15 years and has a story or example to go with any situation. Kevyn is always there to say how life may go wrong, but there’s always hope. This young man is a great role model to his peers.

Kevyn has a smile on his face 99.99% of the time and looks for ways to make others smile. Kevyn loves playing practical jokes, but he is also very mature and knows when to be serious. When he sees another member upset, he will take the time to see what’s wrong and offer to help in any way that he can. He will do his best to make the situation better for all involved.

Kevyn has been a member of Torch Club since he became a member of the Avondale Clubhouse. He enjoys giving back to his community and recently joined the choir at his church. Kevyn appreciates how music can emotionally affect people and understands that his singing can help brighten someone’s day. Some of the engagements he has been honored to be part of include: weddings, funerals, and he lifts spirits each Sunday at mass. On Mondays, he will give a recap to the Club staff about his performances over the weekend and his upcoming performances on his calendar. Recently, Kevyn was torn between spending quality time with an uncle he hadn’t seen in a while and singing at a funeral in his community. By the end of the day he was determined that it was important for him to divide his time to do both. Kevyn eventually came up with the idea to ask his uncle to go with him to the church.

Kevyn shared, “I like coming to the Club because it’s so fun, it keeps me entertained, and helps me exercise in a fun way. I can get help with my homework and when things aren’t going well at home, the Club helps keep my mind off it.”

As a Youth of the Month honoree, Kevyn is eligible to compete in Boys & Girls Clubs of Pueblo County’s 2016 Youth of the Year competition, which provides several scholarships and leadership opportunities. Print Pros is proud to be the October Youth of the Month Sponsor. The October Youth of the Month was selected by Steve Nawrocki and Angela Giron. If you would like to congratulate Kevyn, you may do so by emailing him at club@bgcpueblo.org.
