Youth of the Month-September 2016

Jesus ‘Milo’ Moctezuma
East Side  Clubhouse

Boys & Girls Clubs of Pueblo County announced that Jesus ‘Milo’ Moctezuma is the Club’s September Youth of the Month. The Youth of the Month honor is earned by one member each month in recognition of their strong leadership, good character, and commitment to service. Legacy Bank and The Center for American Values are proud to be Youth of the Month Sponsors.

Milo is a 13-year-old eighth grader at Risley International Academy of Innovation and he has been a member of the Club for 6 years. Boys & Girls Club staff say it has been a privilege to watch Milo develop into such a strong and genuine leader at a young age. Milo can always be counted on to speak and act the same way around his peers as he does around adults. Milo has managed to steer clear from negative influences and risky behaviors and remains focused on sports like cross-country and basketball. He prides himself in his academic work and maintains a 3.0 grade point average.

Milo is always willing to lend a helping hand, even if the task is a big one. Milo recently helped the staff glue promotional fliers for a Club fundraiser to pizza boxes at a local Little Caesars Pizza restaurant. It was a daunting task that required pasting 1,300 fliers onto pizza boxes in a short amount of time. Milo worked hard towards the goal and gave his peers encouragement along the way. Milo always helps with the end of day clean-up and has makes sure the teen area is free of trash and that everything is in order. He truly takes pride in his Clubhouse and it shows by the time he devotes to giving back.

Milo shared, “The Club is the place where I can simply be myself.”
As a Youth of the Month honoree, Milo is eligible to compete in Boys & Girls Clubs of Pueblo County’s 2017 Youth of the Year competition, which provides several scholarships and leadership opportunities. The September Youth of the Month was selected by City Councilman Bob Schilling and Dr. Sally Berryman. If you would like to congratulate Milo, you may do so by emailing him at club@bgcpueblo.org.
