Since joining the Club, Jamie has experienced a significant transformation in his confidence, behavior, and sense of belonging. Before coming to the Club, Jamie was very shy and often kept to himself. He did not interact much with staff or other members and did not have a strong sense of belonging in the places around him.

Through the relationships and support he has found at the Club, Jamie has come out of his shell and become much more confident and outgoing. He has developed a strong-minded and independent personality and is no longer afraid to use his voice. Jamie has become a quiet, natural leader among his peers. Although he may not always be the loudest person in the room, he pays attention to what is happening around him and is willing to speak up when he feels something is wrong or when he sees someone who needs support. The Club has helped Jamie find his voice, build confidence, and recognize that he has a place where he belongs.

Jamie demonstrates good character, leadership, and a commitment to helping others every day at the Boys & Girls Club. One moment that stands out in particular happened toward the end of the summer when Jamie stepped up in a meaningful way for another member.

Jamie approached Ms. Erika and told her that he really needed to talk to her. During their conversation, Jamie used his voice to speak up about another member who had been experiencing bullying from members in the 4th and 5th grade group. Jamie explained that what was happening made him uncomfortable and that he could no longer stand by and be a bystander.

Jamie’s decision to speak up demonstrated tremendous courage and character. He could have easily stayed quiet, but instead, he recognized that another member needed someone to advocate for them and chose to do something about it. Staff thanked Jamie for having the courage to speak up and recognized the positive impact his actions could have on another member.

This moment is a true example of the leader Jamie has become. He may be a quiet leader, but he leads by paying attention, caring about others, and speaking up when he knows something is not right. His willingness to stand up for another member demonstrates the kind of character, compassion, and leadership that makes Jamie an outstanding member of the Boys & Girls Club.
