Kid of the Month
Dajia is very out-going, supportive, and full of energy. She is a great leader when it comes down to helping other members/staff, teen leaders, and is a great friend to everyone in the CO-AAP Site and Club. She loves playing in the gym, but most importantly she involves herself in programs provided for her such as STEM, Crazy 8’s, and Math Hoops. You will never find her sitting around inactive.
Not only does she participate in every program but as mentioned she will have her parents waiting outside until closing time because of how passionate she is about the Boys & Girls Club. She is the definition of a member who takes advantage of every opportunity the Club gives her without a doubt. Furthermore, when outside of Club activities she lends a hand to members when they need it, for instance, when participating in the National Girls and Women’s Sport Day, Dajia was full of ideas that when the other members would run out of activities she would brainstorm and put out more than five ideas. Not only that, but she supports and motivates other members when playing volleyball. Furthermore, Dajia has a very active personality. She would, however, sit there until all her homework was done. Her attitude has made a dramatic change because she has created a personality where she is a mini staff without being asked. Words cannot express how much the Avondale Clubhouse and CO-AAP have impacted her. Moreover, Dajia’s attitude and behavioral issues have drastically changed with CO-AAP. For instance, with the adversity in ages at Avondale most younger members tend to latch on to their fellow older members' habits and attitudes. Although joining CO-AAP allowed her to be with members within the same age groups in which she is true to herself and her personality. She has even flourished to be a great role model younger members can look up to.
Dajia is always ready to help staff clean any room in a respectful, caring, and responsible way. She will find ways to help other members feel happy throughout the day. Dajia always takes initiative to inspire other members to participate in programs where members are query to join. She encourages members and herself to make their own decisions. Dajia shows good teamwork when it comes down to STEM activities, Arts and Crafts, High-Yield Learning, and gym activities. She is very ambitious about the CO-AAP Site and what we believe in; she is always prepared with iReady, Math, and STEM activities. In addition, we have recently been keeping track of all participation in programs and homework; she has the highest number of points. The members with the highest points get to have lunch with staff. This shows her determination to have lunch with staff and her encouragement to other members to join her. When Dajia is nervous, she challenges herself to be the first member to speak up or try something out, she overcomes her nervousness.
“The Club has made my life better because I feel safe and accepted around the staff and members because I can feel my feelings without being judged. CO-AAP has made my life better because everyone is nice that I get to go home every night with a small smile on my face.” - Dajia
