Boys & Girls Club has been a positive change to Christol. The very beginning Christol was very quiet and reserved. When she talked it was almost as if she was whispering. Christol really stayed to herself and if not to herself she was with her sisters. This summer was when we really got to see Christol come out of her shell. She began to speak up and have conversations with staff about her days at home and stories about her and her sisters. She has finally found her voice, Boys & Girls Club has become a safe space for her.

While Christol is finding herself, she is also developing leadership skills. Staff call her the “Silent Leader”, due to the sole fact that she has quickly become a leader amongst the 4th grade group. Recently in the gym the 4th-5th grade group has been working on flag football. Christol has not only found that she is a great player but has amazing sportsmanship. If a friend from the opposing team is having a hard time she will take her time to help that friend work on whatever it may be they are struggling with. Despite having a group full of competitive players she never fails to tell each and everyone of her teammates how great of a job everyone has done.
